Suicide Prevention : Building Life

“Building Life” is a project which grew out of community response to the increased number of teen suicides in Anne Arundel County in 2008. The project emphasizes the value of life in its purpose and direction, and the importance of living life well in relationship to others. Music, video, awareness and service combine to encourage teens’ insight and action to avoid becoming overwhelmed by disappointment, fear or depression.

This PSA, Empty Seat, reveals the emotional and grief-filled reality that results from a suicide; and, as such, represents the problem faced by many teens and families in the wake of the loss. Students from the Severna Park and Broadneck communities in Maryland were involved in the making of this film. A music video, based upon the original music from Winds of Hope, Winds of Healing, “Building Life”, will be filmed in August, 2010, offering an alternative to “taking life.” It is an inspiration to encourage the building of life with intention, hope and support from others.

Building Life will offer events, service projects and educational opportunities for both youth and adults in 2010/11 in response to the Anne Arundel County communities and their efforts to support teens in their lives and life-building.
